Just thought I would share this with you all, as it has come in very handy with me, and I'm sure it will be handy for at least one other out there...
I'm going to teach you how to hook up any old external hard drive to you Xbox 360 via USB.
This will allow you to be able to upload all of your MP3s and movies or whatever onto it saving you from having to use the networking workaround.
THIS PROCEDURE DOES NOT ALLOW YOU TO SAVE SAVE GAMES OR MARKETPLACE CONTENT ONTO YOUR HDD.
What you will need:
- PC with Win 95 or later
- USB cable to connect HDD to Xbox 360
- AND
- Either a HHD + adapter to make it USB, OR
- Any USB external HDD pre-made combo.
Firstly, make sure the HDD you are using for the Xbox 360 is cleared of anything important as the steps following COMPLETELY CLEARS the HDD.
Okay, connect the HDD to your PC via the USB cable.
Go to 'My Computer' and right click on the new drive that appears.
Click on 'Format..."
Make sure the File System is FAT32.
Click Start.
Your HDD is now the correct format to be read by the Xbox 360.
Copy over any music etc you want on the HDD.
Plug the HDD into your Xbox 360 using the USB cable.
Power up the 360 and browse your new HDD in the music/ movie whatever sections of the Xbox 360 Dashboard.
There IS a way to make a HDD act the same way that the certified ones do, (Saved Games, Marketplace Content etc.) but you MUST have a 'Western Digital SATA BEVS HDD' and a HDD security sector file ('hddss.bin').
You must generate the 'hddss.bin' yourself using a certified HDD and a program called Hddhacker, or find one via a 'hush hush' method ;)
